Description
This qualification covers the application of nursing skills and knowledge required to be eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia in line with some state/territory nursing and midwifery regulatory authorities. This qualification is suited to Australian Apprenticeship pathways.
The importance of culturally aware and respectful practice
All workers undertaking work in health need foundation knowledge to inform their work with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients and co-workers and with clients and co-workers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. This foundation must be provided and assessed as part of a holistic approach to delivery and assessment of this qualification. Specific guidelines for assessment of this aspect of competency are provided in the Assessment Guidelines for the Health Training Package.

There are two options (Groups A and B below) for selecting medication electives for the HLT43407 Certificate IV in Nursing (Enrolled/Division 2 nursing).
Group A elective - for medication administration at Certificate IV level
The following Certificate IV level elective is available as one of four electives in line with the Packaging Rules:
HLTEN407B Administer a range of medications (Note pre-requs: HLTAP401B, HLTEN403B, HLTEN509B)
Group B medication unit group - for medication administration at Diploma level
The following Diploma level 'medication unit group' is available:
HLTEN507B Administer and monitor medications in the work environment (Note pre-requs: HLTAP501B, HLTEN502B, HLTEN509B)
HLTAP501B Analyse health information (Note pre-requ: HLTAP401B)
HLTEN502B Apply effective communication skills in nursing practice
*Note: If the Group B medication unit group is selected in HLT43407 Certificate IV in Nursing (Enrolled/Division 2 nursing):
- HLTEN402B Communicate effectively in a nursing role is not required as a core unit because its content is incorporated in the unit group (in HLTEN502B Apply effective communication skills in nursing practice )
- An additional elective must be selected in line with the Packaging Rules
